Bilingual letter Aa sound baskets with free printables
These Montessori inspired beginning sound baskets are inspired by a very typical Montessori phonetics game: matching small objects to their corresponding initial sound sandpaper letter. In this game a group of 3 or 4 sandpaper letters are placed on a rug and group of miniature objects are sorted according to their initial sound.
This game is targeted to children between 3 and 4.5 years old. My little girl is only two and is only starting to learn letter sounds since a couple of weeks so this game would be just too complicated for her. However, Tutu LOVES matching games and so I decided to approach a simplified version of this phonetic game.
For our baskets I select 5-6 objects that start with our letter of the week and that I have on hand (toys, miniatures I have around the house, fruits). I make printables that match these objects and put them together in a basket. I also included some other common objects in my printables in case that you have around different items than I have
I also made some uppercase and lowercase wool letters and sandpaper letters for these baskets. And included a magnetic lowercase letter and a rubber with the uppercase letter. The idea behind this was just to familiarize her with the letters and their sounds but she even wants to match these ones!
